Alfredo James Pacino (1940), known as Al Pacino, was born in East Harlen Manhattan, New York, on April 25, 1940.  This makes him 81 years of age now & with 5 ft. 7 inch height. Son of Salvatore Pacino and Rose Gerard, both of Italian descent. He was two years old when his parents separated. His father moved to California and his mother moved to the South Bronx to live with his parents.

At 17, “Sonny”, as his friends called him, aspired to be a baseball player as well as an actor. After leaving school, he fell out with his mother, left home and, to support himself and finance his training as an actor, he worked as a messenger, waiter, porter and postal worker. He started drinking early and became a marijuana user.

At the beginning of his career, he worked in small garage parts in New York. He was rejected by Actors Studio, but joined the Hebert Berghof Studio (HB Studio), where he met acting teacher Charlie Laughton, who became his mentor and best friend. In his first stage performances, he won an Obie Award for his performance in “The Indian Wants The Bronx” and a Tony Award for “Does The Tiger” Wear a Necktie?”.

In cinema, the premiere took place in 1969, with a small participation in the film “Uma Girl Advanced”. In 1971, his performance in “Os Viciados” caught the attention of filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, who selected him to act in Coppola’s “The Godfather” trilogy (1972), (The Godfather), which earned him a nomination for the “Oscar for Best Supporting Actor” in the role of Michael Corleone, the youngest son of Dom Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando). In 1974 he repeated his role in “The Godfather Part II”, when he was nominated for an “Oscar for Best Actor”. In 1990, he acted in the third film of the trilogy.

After several Academy Award nominations for Best Actor in “A Dog’s Day” (1975), “Justice for All” (1979), “Dick Tracy” (1990), “Success at Any Price” (1992), he received the “1993 Best Actor Oscar” in Perfume for a Woman (1992) for his role as Frank Slade, a retired blind lieutenant colonel who hires high school student Charlie Simms to accompany him on a trip to New York. That same year, he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for the film “Glengarry Glen Ross” (Success at Any Price).
